The rise of the Spanish-style “Cortado” and similar drinks, such as the Flat White and the Piccolo, have given people a taste for shorter, stronger coffees. These coffees are typically made with a double espresso, topped with a small amount of steamed milk and served in a glass.
Demand for shorter, stronger coffees is demonstrated by shrinking cup sizes. We used to be a nation of 16oz bath-sized coffee cup drinkers. Now multinational chains with questionable UK tax records serve 12oz cups. Independents and uber-cool indy coffee shops now only offer 6oz to 8oz cups. Here at Serrano & Manchego we serve the 6oz cup as you would find in any Madrid or Barcelona coffee bar, uber trendy or not.
